Phenomenon: EU wheat Export has decreased by 11% and overall agriculture trade has reduced by 3.2%
The European Union’s soft wheat exports reduced by 11% in the 2023-24 season compared to the 2022-23 season according to a Reuters report. In the 2022-23 season, the EU exported 4.19 million metric tons, on the other hand, in the 2023-24 season EU export declined to 3.72 million metric tons of wheat.
(Note: The EU counts their cereals marketing year from July to next year June)
In terms of individual contribution among member states, in the 2023-24 season, Romania gained the top wheat exporter position by exporting 1.04 million metric tons of wheat. Besides, Poland achieved 2nd place, by exporting 734,000 tons, Bulgaria achieved 3rd place, by exporting 685,000 tons, followed by France and Germany, with 682,000 tons and 414,000 tons.
Moreover, the EU’s main wheat importer countries in the 2023-24 and 2022-23 seasons are 1. Morocco 2. Algeria 3. South Korea 4. Nigeria and 5. South Africa.
Furthermore, an EU report indicates that the EU’s overall agriculture trade with non-EU countries decreased by 3.2%, 13.5 billion less than previous years.
